Sampson Visits the Old Folks Again

Yesterday Sampson went over to Brighton and walked with our old darling Labrador who is a retired seeing-eye dog. She’s a very cute Labrador who has spent most of her lifetime guiding her owner back and forth through to work in downtown Boston. (see the post called a “Wonderful Love Story” scroll down a bit if you want to see her story) The funny thing about her is that she knows she’s retired. She comes when she wants to, not necessarily when you’ve called. In fact, she does pretty much whatever she wants on her walks. You can’t get upset with her, she has spent her life working and she does deserve to be a dog and have some fun. So Cheryle let’s her be a dog again.

No doubt, Sampson visited the local breakfast café, where he is a VIP guest where he got hopefully some healthy treats, although knowing my mother-in-law, I can’t be certain of that.

Today we went directly to visit our senior citizens, after stopping by to see the crossing guard. It’s cold this morning, but Sampson went right up the porch and there was everybody sitting in the lobby. We were, of course, invited in. And with a bag of organic cookies, we went around and said hi to everyone. The really funny little old lady was her usual self. Her name is Becky. But as she said “You can call me Becky, you can call me Rebecca you can call me Beckster, just don’t forget to call me honey.” Her joke de jour was (or I should say the only one I remember is - “ an old guy is sitting on the street corner crying his eyes out, a passer-by stops to ask what’s wrong. He says I have a 21 years old wife who’s stunningly beautiful, a great cook and a nymphomaniac. The passer-by says, why then, what’s the problem and he replies, I can’t remember where I live!”

Since Sampson has been eating a much more healthy diet, his energy has increased dramatically and his coat is lush and shiny. Last weekend, he had stopped to converse with another dog and got quite a ways behind us on the path. When we turned around to call him, he came running (yes, full tilt running) something neither of us have seen Sampson do since he got here.

Be safe all.
