Yesterday we went out early for our walk and since it was Columbus Day, there was really no one around. Today we go out at our regular time and Officer Pete is keeping a sharp eye out for us. "Hey dere you guys ahhh!" Officer Pete greets Sampson enthusiastically and starts reaching for his milkbones. I ask him if he would mind giving Sampson one of his healthy, organic cookies instead.
Pete looks at me like I have two heads. "Whadda dose? some kinda frooty, tooty crahhp ya got at da helt food sto-ah?" "Milk bones are fulla good good stuff - dey got vitamins and all kinds ah good crap in em. Cmere Samspon, lemme give ya a real treat."
I take that as a "no."
Pete opens the gate to the big house and Sampson goes exploring the big yard. Several groups of adorable little children show up and dutifully wait for Pete to hold up traffic (not that there is any) and cross them. "Little baahstids," Pete mutters each time and occasionally some of the adorable little children give Pete the international gesture of peace and brotherhood.
In between, he tells me about some of the dogs he's had as K-9 police partners. He sighs a bit. "Shepahhds, smartest, bravest dogs inna world, too brave fuh theyahh own good sometimes."
We chat and cross the adorable children for 15 minutes or so until Sampson wanders back to the front gate. Sampson is ready for breakfast so we say good bye to Officer Pete. "Stop givin him that frooty tooty crahhp." Pete advises me. "See yah tommorahh!" See ya Pete!
Be safe all,
