Sampson's Story

As a matter of policy, we don't publish the names of the dogs that we tell funny stories about (usually to protect the guilty!) - but also it's just our preference not to. We're going to make an unusual exception for an unusual circumstance. Sampson is our 11 year old German Shepard who we have the honor and privilege of caring for while his parents are serving our country. Since they have only sporadic access to the Internet, we thought they might enjoy hearing about how and what Sampson is doing while he is here.

First of all Sampson is in great shape for an 11 year old. He has some minor eye problems that require some care and some eye drops 5 to 6 times a day and just a touch of arthritis. Other than that, Sampson is one happy-go-lucky dog. For the last three weekends, he's been going up to Maine with us. He loves the walk down the dirt road next to the lake. He's even gone in swimming a couple of times. He can wander around at his own pace (which is slowly) and smell stuff to his heart's content. That walk is a little longer than what he's used to, so we let him go as slowly as he wants.

Still, he sometimes over-does it and his arthritis starts to bother him. That's when he gets his Lavender scented heat wrap around his hips followed by a professional hip massage from Cheryle and some mild pain meds before bed. Did I mention that we are spoiling him rotten?

Sampson and our big boy, Keeway, have become best buds. Sampson is the only dog Keeway let's sleep on his L.L. Bean dog bed.

We're going to be posting a lot of pictures of Sampson and his big adventures starting tomorrow.

Stay tuned, we'll be blogging about him pretty much every day along with our regularly scheduled programming!
