The Dog Conga Line Game (Best of the Old Posts Series)
OK, this one was pretty funny, hysterical actually. It started out with Nellie and Skipper playing with a tug toy. Then it turned into a general rassling match. Then one of them decided to change the game to a chase game, one lap around the couch but instead of going round and round on the couch (which is the way the game is usually played) Skipper shot straight up the stairs, once around the guest room and then zoom, down the stairs and around the couch again and back up the stairs. Now Shiloh's not much on tug games, but she loves chase games, so now we have three dogs zooming around the couch, up the stairs, around the bed and back down the stairs and around the couch again.
Finally, Big Benny decided this looked like fun and tried to join in. Unfortunately for Benny his timing was just slightly off. He headed up the stairs at the exact same moment that all three were coming down the stairs. That pretty much stopped the game as everyone sort of ended up all tangled up. No one got hurt, of course, but I think Benny was disappointed that the game was over before he got a chance to play.
I'm desperately trying to get pictures of this, but I'm laughing so hard I can't hold the camera steady.

The Tail of Floyd, the Lab puppy, who decided he was not leaving, ever, under any circumstances!
Every once in a while, we have to bring back some of the funniest blog posts. And this is the funniest of them all. Enjoy!
A few years ago, during the Christmas holiday week, we had an adorable chocolate Lab puppy named Floyd. Floyd really lucked out that week because we had another Lab puppy staying with us too. She was exactly the same age as Floyd. So he had another Lab puppy to play with from dawn till dusk. She slept at the foot of our bed and Floyd slept in our bed. As soon as we stirred, Floyd would do his best sneaky Labrador crawl to the end of the bed, make sure the little female pup was still asleep, then leap in the air and pounce on her. Boom! Off to the races! She pretty much fell for this trick all week, much to Floyd's delight. Floyd would then dash out of the bedroom with the little black lab puppy in hot pursuit. She would generally catch him by about the time he got to the living room and give him a good thrashing, as far as puppy thrashings go. Which obviously is not much, but enormous fun nonetheless.
On top of all this fun, we had a ton of snow that week. Which meant we could all go play on the golf course at Fresh Pond. Floyd had never, ever, seen snow (he was born in the early summer) but boy did he love it. He dove into snow banks, figured out how to slide down hills on his tummy and just had a rip roaring good time for a couple of hours every day. Floyd was a remarkably smart puppy with an amazing disposition. Labradors are smart, but little Floyd was a regular Albert Einstein! He saw kids sliding down hills on their little sleds and such, and Floyd figured out that if you got a running start, why a puppy could get a fun ride down the hill too! Floyd was scary smart. And he LOVED snow! That week we had several feet of it, so Floyd was in puppy heaven!
When his owner came to pick him up, he put Floyd's leash on and started heading for the door. This is where it starts to get really funny. Floyd planted all four paws and pulled backwards as hard as he could. His owner chuckled and said "Well, I guess Floyd had a really good time here." As he pulled Floyd closer to the door, Floyd spread himself sideways, front paws on one side of the door, back paws on the other. Floyd made it very clear that he had no intention of leaving, in fact, Floyd was NOT leaving!
After his owner got him past the door, Floyd used the same technique with the railings of the stairs. Kenny and I are now in full blown hysterics, even his owner is laughing. He finally has to pick Floyd up and carry him down the stairs.
But it's not over yet. As he's dragging Floyd to the car, Floyd is using every trick in the book to get out of his collar, which we can see from the front door is starting to work. Just as his owner gets him to his car, Floyd slips the collar! Zing -Floyd comes flying back up the stairs and starts pounding on the door. By now we're laughing so hard we can't even talk and Floyd's owner has to carry Floyd all the way down the stairs and all the way to the car. And Floyd is putting up a mighty fight, wiggling like crazy trying to get out of his owner's arms. Brian, his owner, is having trouble because he is laughing so hard he can barely carry Floyd.
Floyd came back stayed with us one more time before his owner Brian moved out to California. The second time Brian just scooped up Floyd and carried him all the way to the car. Unfortunately for Brian, he forgot to close all the windows in the car. So as he came back to get Floyd's food and toys, Floyd jumped out the window and shot past him and back into our house. Fortunately, Brian has a great sense of humor, because Kenny and I were in complete stitches and were of no help whatsoever.
We love it when our guests are excited to come to our house, but Floyd was the only dog who who was truly adamant about NOT LEAVING!

Here's Wilbur..........
This requires a little explanation. The first thing you probably noticed is that Wilbur is not a dog. But Wilbur is sort of a family member as he is one of the only plants we have not managed to kill. In fact, despite our best efforts, he just keeps coming back year after year. The last time he flowered was 7 years ago. And his flowers are some of the most beautiful you have ever seen. So, we started this video diary of his flowering. But don't worry, this is still our Dog Blog! We're just so thrilled that Wilbur is flowering we just had to share!
Here he is in full bloom!

Missy, Debbie and other various other guests
OK, I know I promised this would not be a "picture blog." However, the Nikon D-60 is like no camera I've ever seen. You can just fire away, pop, pop, pop and it takes a picture in about 2 seconds. Have I mentioned that the hubby is a bit of a gadget freak? He now fancies himself the next Wegman. The only similarity, of course, is that Kenny has taken a couple of pictures of Billy the Weimeraner. That's where the similarity ends.
Now he's talking about buying a high-end video camera. OHHHH, Robert Redford, Clint Eastwood watch your backs, there's a new filmaker in town, look out!
OK, here's some cute pictures.....

Oh man! I know that smell.....it's....it's STEAK!!!!!

I like the view from up here!

I may be small, but I am very fierce!

Billy!
This is Billy. He is just amazing, so sweet, so playful and he can run at about 60 MPH! Fortunately, Billy also has great re-call and comes when he's called. This is our first day with him and we just adore him. If I can get him to stand still for 2 seconds, I will try to get a picture of him at the park tomorrow.

I know I promised this won't be a picture blog, but....
These are just TOO cute. The whole pack snoozing on the couch after our long walk just cracked me up. And the two Maya's playing was too funny not put up.

Happy Holidays Everyone!
Ho Ho Ho!
Happy holidays to all my wonderful clients! I wish you all have a healthy and happy New Year.
We have a really nice pack, as usual, this year. This morning most of our guests arrived, all within about an hour, so there was a lot of excitement and all natural, organic doggie treats going around. It's nice we have very good sound insulation or very nice neighbors, or both. We have two new guest for the holidays. Jessie, who is very sweet and mellow and Sophie, who is a stunningly beautiful dog. Sophie was a little unsure of the hubby at first, but, as usual he patiently won her over and now she comes to him for ear scratchies. We have TWO Maya's, so needless to say when calling one or the other, they both come or sit or whatever we ask them to do. It's pretty funny actually. OK, here's some of our better pictures, so far!

Things to be thankful for
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Our guests this Thanksgiving were a wonderfully funny and sweet group. (pictures all the way down at the bottom!) Gus the Beagle took a liking to Maya the puppy and those two romped a lot. Iggy was her usual sweet self as was the generally dignified Miss Lily (she gets really silly and very affectionate around Kenny). Since Kenny was here for all four days of the holiday long weekend, he had all 4 days to play with our little pack, something he loves doing and our guests feel the same way.
Pretty soon, the whole group was following Kenny around like the pied piper and everyone was vying for his attention, which he dispenses very liberally. It's the funniest thing to watch Kenny plop down on the couch and then watch 3 or 4 of our guests leap onto his lap at the same time, or at least try to. He's so calm and patient with all the dogs as he arranges a comfy spot for everyone. One on each side, one on his lap and so on.
And I can tell he gets the biggest kick out of it. He talks to the all the dogs while were sitting on the couch and he's giving belly rubs and neck scratchies, which is really cute (unless I'm actually trying to watch something interesting on TV.)
I'm very thankful to all my wonderful clients for the complete faith they put in me by trusting me to keep their 4 legged family member safe, healthy and happy. This is the 7th anniversary of Keeway's Comfy Kennel and I am even more passionate about my work than ever. That's a nice feeling and I wish everyone could feel that way about their job. Speaking of jobs, I know that in this insane economy, almost everyone is feeling more stress and probably working harder than they ever have. I know Kenny is.
His friend David Frey, put together a little movie called The 25 Dollar Movie. You can click here to watch it http://25dollarmovie.com which I want to share with all of you who are working harder than ever. Just a little reminder of how we have to keep things in perspective even in hard times. I hope you enjoy it and feel inspired to pass it along or visit David's new website called appreciatelife.com, click here to see some of his other movies. www.appreciatelife.com

A Very Missy Greeting
You've seen pictures of the adorable Beagla-dor, (beagle/yellow lab mix) Missy on the blog. We call her the happiest dog in the world. Her whole body wags when she greets you. She is very, very fond of Kenny. And he, of course, adores her too. Yesterday when he came home from work - (Missy had arrived a little earlier in the day) now you have to picture this.... the moment she saw Kenny, she jumped at least 3 feet into the air AND at the same time, went into an ultra high speed, full body wiggle. And she kept doing it three or four more times. By the fourth time, Kenny had dropped his briefcase, the mail he was carrying and was in full blown hysterics. Oh, if only we could have gotten video of that greeting! OMG - was that funny!

October and time for new pictures
Mazurka and Jazz in one of the rare moments where they were not in full tilt boogie mode
Mr. Panni get's the better of Maya the puppy. (He pretty much got everyone, even when he had to launch himself off the couch to start a game, to say he's not intimidated by bigger dogs would be a wild understatement.)
Well, October isn't even over yet and still we've had a romping, rolling, running and park strolling good time so far. Our newest guest, Mr. Panini, is a little guy with a huge personality. He had Kenny and I in stiches with his antics. Mr. Panini was determined to get a little game of rassling in with everyone, even long tall Sally, who thought Mr. P was cool. Mr. P is definitely one of the funniest, sweetest, most affectionate dogs we've ever had the pleasure of caring for.
Sally who had a fear of men is now all lovey-dovey with Kenny. Took a while, but Kenny won her over (charming devil that he is). Jazz and Mazurka gave new meaning to high energy play. These girls started playing the instant they met and didn't stop for the entire weekend. Belle, who's not really a puppy even had a little fun playing with Mr. P. She didn't quite know what to make of him at first, but even the dignified Miss Belle thought he was pretty funny. Zander the puppy and Maya the puppy both loved playing with Mr. P.

Dog Days of Summer
Whooo Hoooo - what a great big yard to run around in!
The first two pictures are of Mazurka. She is a high energy, sweet young dog who I have been walking for a while. Much to her delight, there was another youngster here who's name is Frey. These two played like crazy. Here are a few pictures of new guest (Mazurka) and a very special dog birthday party that our pack was been invited to and assorted other things.

FREE dental exam services
A new service now being offered at Keeway's Comfy Kennel. Here our resident doggie dental hygienist, Paco, does a quick oral exam on Big Edddy's mouth. Paco has been specially trained to look for food remnants and, of course, dental problems. Big Edddy passes Paco's test. Why pay for expensive dental exams, when our Paco can can do full dental exams.!Just kidding, of course!
